2025 Freelance Publishing Professionals Awayday

On the Same Page: Building Better Collaboration Between Freelancers and Publishers

On 3 October, we were delighted to sponsor and take part in the Freelance Publishing Professionals Awayday, an event that brought together freelancers, vendors, and publishers from across the industry to share ideas, network, and explore new ways of working together more effectively.

Our session, led by Rebecca Durose-Croft and Emma Hudson “On the Same Page: Better Collaboration with Vendors and Publishers”, focused on how freelancers can become not just service providers, but strong, trusted partners to their editorial suppliers – and by extension, to publishers themselves.

We discussed what true collaboration looks like in today’s publishing landscape: open communication, clarity around expectations, and the confidence to ask questions throughout a project to ensure alignment. The message resonated with attendees, many of whom shared their own experiences of working across multiple teams and workflows.

Throughout the day, we had the pleasure of meeting a wide range of freelancers and educational publishing professionals, all eager to exchange insights about emerging skills and the evolving demands of content production. Conversations ranged from the importance of soft skills and adaptability to the growing role of technology and accessibility in editorial processes.

It was inspiring to see how much enthusiasm there is for continuous learning and better collaboration within our industry. Events like this remind us how powerful the publishing community can be when we truly work “on the same page.”

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to the organisers and everyone who attended for the warm welcome, lively discussions and shared passion for publishing excellence. We came away energised by the conversations and full of ideas about how we can continue to strengthen partnerships.

Here’s to more collaboration, more connection, and more shared success!
